SUMMARY:2017 03 20 Provincial Nifty Fifty Senior Ladies Curling Bonspiel
DESCRIPTION:The Cloverdale Curling Club is excited to be hosting the 50th Annual Nifty Fifty Bonspiel\, a great tradition of friendship\, sportsmanship\, and\, of course\, the love of curling. The Cloverdale Curling Club (formerly known as Valley Curling Club) has been home to the sport of curling in Cloverdale since 1954. The first provincial Nifty-Fifty Bonspiel was held in Royal City Curling Club on February 12\, 1968 with 128 ladies present. The goal of the event is to bring together women curlers\, over the age of 50\, from throughout the province. While there is always spirited competition on the ice\, camaraderie is at the forefront of the event. We have 144 participants this year with many having curled in this bonspiel for 20 years or more. Our oldest participant in 2012 was 92 years young! The host curling club changes each year\, rotating from the Metro Vancouver area to Vancouver Island and the Interior. Each year we have a different theme and this year\, in honor of the 50th anniversary\, our theme is "Stars of the 50's." The club will be decked out to welcome our "stars" from all over the province. There are formal opening ceremonies on Monday\, March 20th at 11:00am where all teams are piped into the curling rink in grand Scottish style\, followed with addresses by local dignitaries. Game action begins bright and early Monday\, March 20th\, with the first draw (game) at 7:00am. Draws on Monday continue through the day/evening with the last draw of the day at 6:45pm. The same schedule runs Tuesday\, March 21st ending at 5:00pm. Similarly on Wednesday\, March 22nd\, winding up with the last draw on Wednesday\, March 22nd at 2:15pm. The Cloverdale Curling Club offers a licensed lounge and we invite anyone in the community to come out and enjoy the curling.
