Description
Sheep will take centre stage Saturday, May 14 at the Surrey Museum from 10:30-4:00pm at the annual Sheep to Shawl Competition. Three local weaving guilds will face off in a feverish competition to card wool, spin it into yarn and weave it into beautiful shawls, all within four hours.
But the true headliners are the sheep themselves. Several sheep will be on site outdoors for families to enjoy and learn about. Take in a rare sheep sheering demonstration or one of the other interactive activities for all ages:
- Try out the Museum’s spinning wheels yourself with tips from experienced textile volunteers and staff.
- Watch sheep sheering demonstrations from 1:00pm to 2:30pm.
- Weave a colourful book mark on special inkle looms.
- Visit the Textile Studio and Hooser Textile Library to See the Jacquard Loom which is often referred to as the first computer
- The winning guild will be announced at 4:00pm.
